Overview : To be able to do any practical work on a TEM the lenses must be adjusted so everything is aligned right and astigmatism is cancelled out. Most lenses have adjustments for position, rotation and astigmatism.
I'm writing this document for myself so I could get some order in my trials to adjust my TEM. I know there are instructions in the user manual, but I always ends up turning the wrong control and have to start from the beginning again.   :-)

The manual recommends (method 2) to adjust the TEM in this order.

  1. Primary control settings
  2. Condensor lens alignment (pg. 5-38, 5-16)
  3. Condensor lens astigmatism (pg. 5-40)
  4. Electron gun alignment (pg. 5-42, 5-18)
  5. Object lens beam displacement (pg. 5-45)
  6. Image forming system alignment (pg. 5-47)
  7. Current center alignment (pg. 5-49)
  8. Objective lens astigmatism correction (pg. 5-52)
  9. Condenserlens aperture position (pg. 5-19)
  10. Objective lens aperture position (pg. 5-24)
