ND 511, a rebranded Magnetic Peripherals Inc 9427H cartridge disk drive.

I've included a picture of the logic board. There are some large 40 pin Intel chips at the top beside the ROM:s, P82530 serial I/O communication controller, one socketed and the other soldered. Between the ROM:s and the CPU is a 2 kbyte eeprom chip, KM2817A. The CPU in this case is a PLCC in a socket, but the pinout is the same as for the socket for the CLCC The graphic controller is a NEC D7220AD with 8 M5M4464P 256 kbit dram as graphic memory. I haven't been able to identify the two Fujitsu chips yet, but probably they have to do with graphic generation and control of the video circuits. The red and grey socket connects to the video board who is also supplying power to the logic board. The angled pin connector is only connecting to the back side, with two serial ports ( serial in and printer) and a mouse connector. This terminal had the capability to draw graphics on screen but I haven't been able to unlock that feature yet. It might demand a different firmware and so far I've only found one set of roms in them. If I don't find a manual telling me what I need to know I probably ends up doing some reverse engineering on this board. That's the stuff I really like to do, a real challenge. :-)

HAWK cartridge disk showing it's best side
My smallest biggest disk. ND 511

Some technical data (Ref 1) :
Weight cabinet version 109 kg
Weight rackmounted version 61 kg
Power supply 220V 2.6A 50 Hz
Capacity 10 Mbyte total, 5 on a fixed platter and 5 on a removable cassette
50 Mbit unformatted per platter
Recording density 200 BPI
Read speed
Write speed
Rotational speed 2400 RPM
Interface Many optional, this one SMB

This disk was manufactured late 1978 and installed at the customer site at 29:th of november 1978. Serial number 34302.
The disk consists of two platters, one permanently installed in a lower apartment and one as a removable platter protected by a cassette. It is held in place by magnets in the hub once loaded. This is one of the last disks with heavy loaded heads, the head slides over the surface and doesn't fly over it as later disks do.

Tillverkad i november 1978. Lite data... Vikt med pedistal 106 kilo. (Rackversionen bara 61 kg). 230V 2,3A = 530W, 2400 RPM.
